Advanced Manufacturing Technologies

Introducing advanced technology’s tools of the trade—computer and laser-guided systems, routed wirelessly to the internet, 3D printers, prototypes, robotics, and artificial intelligence devices that learn on the fly. These advanced tools help us build better, smarter, and cleaner than ever before. Best of all, they’re creating opportunities for a rewarding future.

As we look towards the future, one thing we can be confident in is that it will look very different than the past did there’s opportunity for things to get better. And it’s your generation who can get involved, who can make a difference and drive those changes.

The future of advanced manufacturing in Canada is incredibly exciting. And that’s because Canada is at the forefront of coming up with new, exciting technologies in healthcare, in agriculture that are going to have an incredibly positive impact, not just on people’s lives directly, but also on improving the healthiness of our planet.

We can use it to create tools and solutions necessary to help solve some of the world’s greatest challenges. As an example, Aspire Food Group, they use robotic and automated data collection to farm insects with a protein composition, similar to meat. There are so many really interesting and cool technologies that are involved in advanced manufacturing, the clothing that we wear, the electronics that we buy, with advanced manufacturing, we can start to make more and more of them right here in Canada.

The main difference between conventional manufacturing and advanced manufacturing is that advanced manufacturing takes advantage of so many technologies that just simply did not exist 20 years ago, all of it comes together to take what we have typically seen in manufacturing to a whole new level.

I love learning, how it is so applicable to my roles – my job, my role as a mother. I love that I can bring my education to my Indigenous community and help inspire others. I really love the work that I do at Mosaic Manufacturing, because I get to work with such cool people. We get to use really interesting technologies and we ultimately get to have an impact on so many of our customer’s lives. And I find that really exciting.

There is no one in the world who’s going to have a more transformative impact on the future of this planet. And frankly, have a cooler job than people in advanced manufacturing.

Select any of the below to get inspired, discover a new career path, or find out how advanced technologies are shaping our lives:

Robotics

We know what robots do—some work all by themselves; some collaboratively with humans; others need to be guided. They're often used to help with tasks humans already do (like a prosthetic arm) or for repetitive and dangerous tasks. You and your robot colleagues could have a big future, together.

Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning

Artificial intelligence can allow manufacturers to build prediction into their processes, fixing equipment before it breaks down, responding in real time to changes in customer demand, or managing risks of supply chain disruptions. AI can also be used to make products and machines work like we do—they can learn by example, solve problems, see and recognize objects, teach themselves, and operate autonomously like self-driving cars. AI is already a big part of our lives—and needs your intelligence to make it even better.

Digital Twins

Digital twins gather data from real life objects, production systems, factories, and supply chains to build virtual models that can be tested under various conditions before being applied again to design or fix things in real life. Virtual twins open the door to future jobs that will have a huge role in making better-designed goods and designing manufacturing systems that are more sustainable.

IIOT Network

IIoT means the “Industrial Internet of Things.” That means linking software systems and devices like sensors, cameras, and machines to the worldwide web – connecting them and making them “smart”. That means they can be monitored and controlled remotely, programmed to do tasks, even work autonomously, by gathering, sharing, analyzing, and actuating data. It’s a key part of your new automated, smarter world.

Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality

This tech makes computer designs real, through 3D printing. It’s “additive” because a computer-guided system adds material, building layer by layer. With it, we can dream up totally new components and products limited only by imagination—and make them a reality.
